Mike Lawlor to perform at my reading this Friday night

Great news. One of the top singer/songwriter/guitarists in the tristate area, Mike Lawlor, will be joining us at Sparta Books this Friday night, 6:30 - 8:00pm. He'll perform some tunes that Mr. Bachman would enjoy, and you will too. Hope to see you there! (And don't forget the cookies and other goodies.)

This was the very first cover comp offered by Leibo
for Heartless Cruelty. To be fair, it was based on a silly
idea of mine. Leibo eventually developed the perfect cover.

Next up: SPARTA BOOKS!

Friday night was great at Well-Read in Hawthorne. See some great pictures below, and more here:
courtesy of Ronny Guerra.

Next on the agenda is Sparta Books in Sparta, behind the movie theater. It's Friday, Nov. 2, 6:30-8:00pm. We're hoping to have at least one surprise guest, and there will definitely be some yummy snacks.

If you have not yet purchased the book, or if you have but you plan on getting more copies as gifts, and you think you may come to the reading on November 2nd in Sparta, PLEASE hold off and buy them there. Donna Fell's store is beautiful, and it's going to be a great and fun evening.

I hope everyone will support your local independent bookstores, just as you are supporting me, your local independent author. If you can, buy Heartless Cruelty at Sparta Books, or Well-Read Books, or at Sages Pages in Madison, or To Be Continued in Metuchen. Even if you can't get there, they all have websites, and they all ship books out.

And if for some reason buying from a store is not convenient, here's a link to my e-store: www.createspace.com/3948859.

In the VERY near future, Heartless Cruelty will be available at literally every store in the country, and internationally, too. Heartless Cruelty will soon be listed by the two major book distributors in the United States, Ingram and Baker & Taylor. This means that anyone can walk into any bookstore and ask for it; when they look in their computer, they will order it for you.

Did someone mention COOKIES?

I hope you already know about the Heartless Cruelty reading/signing event this Friday evening, Oct. 19, 6:30-8:00pm, at Well Read Books, 425 Lafayette Avenue in Hawthorne NJ. But did you know there were going to be snacks? In fact, delicious cookies???
"Must have cookie."

Come for the cookies, stay for the CRUELTY.

HEARTY PRAISE FOR HEARTLESS CRUELTY

“If you’re looking for the next great suspense novel, look no further than Heartless Cruelty. Richard W. Goffman’s moody setting, wonderful characters, and masterful plotting will have you turning pages late into the night as you follow high school English teacher-turned-reluctant hero Bill Bachman, who is in a race against time to save one of his students.”

Great Event Last Friday Night

My first public reading was this past Friday night, at To Be Continued Book Boutique in Metuchen, and it can only be described as a resounding success. Somewhat to my own surprise, I wasn't nervous while I spoke about the when, where, why and how of the writing and publishing process for Heartless Cruelty. I read the prologue, and a bit from Chapter Ten, at the end of Part One, when Bachman finds Jason near death in the school parking lot. I have to say that it all... felt... pretty great.

Best of all was the crowd. Lots of old friends came from far and wide for support, and lots of new friends and readers came, too. One lady named Jeannie thanked me for writing the book. She said that it had gotten her through some hard times she was having: when things got too stressful, she said, she was able to escape into the world of Mr. Bachman. Woo-hoo, let's hear it for escapism!

People came and went all evening. Some couldn't stay for the reading, but bought the book (and got it autographed) anyway. Sales were brisk, and a great time was had by all. I had an "opening act": Jazzmyn "Jazzy" Perez, an eighth grader at the middle school in Metuchen, sang a couple of show tunes before the reading began. For a 14-year-old, she has a mature voice and a real stage presence.

Now that I have gotten the first event under my belt, I am REALLY looking forward to the future ones. I hope you can come to one of them. Friday evening, October 19, from 6:30-8:00, I'll be reading and signing at Well Read Books, 425 Lafayette Avenue in Hawthorne. Note to colleagues and ex-students: that's 3 1/2 miles from dear old John F. Kennedy Educational Complex.

Two weeks after that, on Friday evening, November 2, at Sparta Books in Sparta, I'll be reading especially for all you Sussex County friends. I'm hoping for a surprise musical guest that night.

If you haven't bought Heartless Cruelty and you plan on attending one of my events, please buy it at the store. Independent bookstores need all of our support, just as we independent authors do. If you can't make it to one of the stores that is currently carrying Heartless Cruelty, either at an event or any other time, you can go to my e-store via this link: www.createspace.com/3948859. If you want to download it for Kindle, go to http://www.amazon.com/Heartless-Cruelty-Bachman-Mystery-ebook/dp/B008ZRLUJA/ref=sr_1_1?
